Family Adventure Β· 14 Days

A Swiss Family Journey

From chocolate shores of Zurich to the glaciers of Zermatt β€” a thoughtfully paced, multi-generational route across Switzerland.

πŸ“… May 24 – June 6, 2026 πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ 6 Travelers πŸš‚ By Rail πŸ”οΈ Action-packed, 1 rest day
Before We Begin

An Important Note

I'm treating "Germit" as Gornergrat / Zermatt, because that fits what you asked for earlier. This is a max-fun itinerary β€” doable, but the east-Switzerland ending is the tightest part. It's designed to stay realistic while including the big experiences you wanted.

Exact train departures will vary by date, so treat the travel times below as planning windows, then confirm in the SBB app when you book.

Where to Sleep

Best Hotel Bases

Seven strategic bases chosen for minimal transfers, easy grandparent access, and proximity to each day's main activity.

May 24 – 25

Kilchberg / Thalwil / Zurich

Lakeside recovery and easy access to Lindt Home of Chocolate.

May 26 – 28

Lugano-Paradiso

~2h10 from Zurich Airport; perfect jump-off for Monte Tamaro.

May 29 – 31

Vevey / Montreux

Lake Geneva cruises and direct access to Glacier 3000.

June 1 – 2

Zermatt (by station)

Gornergrat train starts directly opposite the railway station.

June 3 – 4

Chur

Cleanest public transport to Pradaschier (~18 min bus to Churwalden).

June 5

Zurich Airport / HB

Stress-free last night before the June 6 departure.

✦ The Big Family Rule ✦

One focused activity per day β€” no dedicated rest days except Day 1 after arrival. Lunch breaks and afternoon hotel time are built into every day so grandparents and the 5-year-old stay fresh.

5DAY
Thu Β· May 28

Grandparent-perfect day β€” huge scenery, very low physical strain.

11DAY
Wed Β· June 3

Zermatt β†’ Chur

Wake 7:00 Glacier Express πŸš‚

Breakfast 7:00. The Glacier Express IS the activity today β€” the train itself is one of the world's most famous scenic routes, crossing 291 bridges and the Oberalp Pass (2,033 m) in panoramic cars. • 12:30 – 13:30 Β· Lunch

Elm Day + Transfer to Zurich/Flawil

Wake 6:45 Scooters πŸ›΄

Breakfast 7:15. Early start from Chur β†’ Elm ~2h by public transport. Elm's summer season starts May 23, 2026. Mountain scooters are the right ride for your family (age 9+). Mountain carts are 12+ / 140 cm only β€” the 5-year-old can share a scooter with an adult if comfortable.

Plan

  • ~7:30 Β· Depart Chur with luggage (checked-through on Swiss rail baggage or carried)
  • 10:00 – 12:30 Β· Gondola up to Γ„mpΓ€chli, scooter runs, children's area, trampolines, petting zoo

  • Evening Β· Easy dinner near the hotel
🍽 Food: Γ„mpΓ€chli Mountain Restaurant (minimal walking from the gondola).

Split strategy: Group A = one parent + 11-year-old β†’ more scooter runs. Group B = grandparents + 5-year-old β†’ kids' area / restaurant terrace.

14DAY
Sat Β· June 6

Chocolarium β†’ Zurich Airport β†’ Delhi

Wake 8:00 Chocolate 🍫 Departure ✈

Relaxed final morning β€” since you slept in Flawil, Chocolarium (Maestrani's) is just minutes away. Open Sat 10:00 – 17:00. Factory-floor viewing of real chocolate production, tastings, kids' treasure hunt.

Plan

  • 8:00 / 8:30 Β· Wake, breakfast, check out
  • 10:00 – 11:30 Β· Chocolarium factory experience + shop
  • 11:45 – 12:30 Β· Lunch at Minor CafΓ© next door, or light bite at Zurich Airport
  • ~13:00 Β· Train Flawil β†’ Zurich Airport (~1h05, direct)
  • ~14:30 Β· Arrive airport with plenty of buffer for an evening flight
  • Evening Β· ✈ Fly Zurich β†’ Delhi
🍽 Food: Minor CafΓ© right next to the Chocolarium shop β€” easiest and most thematic way to close the trip.

⚠ Flight-time check: This plan assumes an afternoon or evening departure from ZRH. If your flight is morning, drop Chocolarium and make it a pure airport-transfer day β€” move Chocolarium to Day 2 (easy from Zurich lakeside) instead.

Eat Well, Walk Less

Food Options by Place

The easiest picks near every main stop β€” chosen to keep grandparents happy and kids fed fast.

Lindt / Kilchberg

CafΓ© Lindt Home of Chocolate β€” most convenient. Outside options: Chez Fritz (~0.2 km), Restaurant Ochsen Michael (~0.5 km).

Monte Tamaro

Restaurant Alpe Foppa at the top β€” closest to the action zone, best for grandparents. Also: Snack Bar Parco Avventura.

Lake Geneva

Eat on the CGN boat (they offer lunch cruises) or right at the landing promenade in Montreux/Vevey.

Glacier 3000

Restaurant Col du Pillon (base, easier) or Le 3 / Botta (summit). Base is smarter on a mixed-weather day.

Gornergrat

Official mountain restaurants along the line. Softer option: Alphitta, ~10 min from Riffelberg station.

Pradaschier

Pradaschier mountain restaurant (top) or Restaurant Portal (base). Both official, both easy.

Elm

Γ„mpΓ€chli Mountain Restaurant β€” right next to the gondola top station. Keeps lunch close to the kids' zone.

Chocolarium

Minor CafΓ© β€” right next to the shop / experience area.

  • Power bank
  • Tiny first-aid pouch

Add for Mountain Days

  • Warmer layer

  • Spare socks for the kids
  • Simple motion-sickness medicine

Add for Coaster / Scooter Days

  • Closed shoes only
  • No loose scarves

  • One small towel (rain / wet seats)
Locked First

What to Book First

  3. Monte Tamaro day
  4. Glacier 3000 day
  5. Gornergrat day
  6. Pradaschier day
  7. Chocolarium (if you want a timed entry)

Swiss Family Card is free with a Swiss Travel Pass for children 6 – under 16 β€” great for your 11-year-old. The 5-year-old rides free on most services by age. If you use the Glacier Express, seat reservation is mandatory in addition to the ticket/pass.

Honest Reality Check

My Honest Recommendation

✦ Pacing Strategy ✦

Only one dedicated rest day β€” Day 1 after arrival. Every other day has a single focused activity, with built-in afternoon hotel time and close-to-hotel dinners so the grandparents and 5-year-old don't burn out.

Flex point: the Elm β†’ Flawil evening transfer on Day 13 is the longest logistics moment. If the family is tired, skip the extra scooter round and catch an earlier train.

Flight-time check: the Day 14 Chocolarium plan assumes an afternoon/evening Zurich β†’ Delhi flight. For a morning flight, swap Chocolarium to Day 2 instead.
